10% Off Viator Shore Excursions and Transfers

Getting ready for your upcoming cruise? Booking your shore excursions is an essential step that many people overlook. Thankfully, Viator is giving Cruise Spotlight readers a 10% discount on nearly any excursion booked by May 16. From zip-lining above Alaskan treetops to pasta-making in Rome, you can lock in memorable experiences—and keep a little extra in your pocket for the souvenir shop.

Why Book a Third-Party Excursion?

  • Smaller groups & local flavor – You don’t have to worry about being herded like cattle on cruise excursions which can have 40-50 people per group. Viator typically offers independent tours that cap group sizes.
  • Flexible cancellation – Most Viator experiences can be canceled up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund (be sure to read the details).
  • Reserve Now & Pay Later – Hold your spot today and pay closer to sailing, handy if your itinerary shifts.
  • 24/7 support – Viator’s customer-service team is on call if plans change mid-cruise.

Cruise Spotlight-Tested Tours We Loved

Here are some of the excursions we’ve booked through Viator and had an amazing time.

Each of these was easier—and often cheaper—through Viator than similar ship-run tours.

Final Thoughts: Third Party Excursions Aren’t For Everyone, but They’re Worth Looking Into

Now, third-party excursions aren’t for everyone. The biggest downside is if your excursion is running late, the ship can leave without out you (cruise line excursions guarantee they’ll wait for you). Also, cruise line excursions have been vetted ahead of time; for third-party companies, you’ll have to research and vet yourself. That being said, personally, I book through the cruise line about 1/3 of the time, through Viator 1/3 of the time, and do the stop on my own the 1/3 of the time. Usually, I’ll book Viator if I have plenty of time onshore, if the excursion isn’t available through the cruise line (sold out or they just don’t offer it), or if the cost is significantly cheaper.

Happy cruising—and happy exploring on shore!
