Allure of the Seas Is Finally Getting Amplified: See What’s In Store

Last Updated on August 20, 2024

Today, Royal Caribbean announced that their ship, Allure of the Seas, will finally get a $100 million “Amplification” during a dry-dock this summer. Amplification is when Royal Caribbean heavily refurbishes a ship, adding new venues and attractions, making the older ships comparable to the newest in the fleet. Allure of the Seas was originally supposed to be amplified in 2020, but that was postponed due to the pandemic. The ship will transform this winter, debuting the new look in April 2025.

Here’s a look at what’s coming to the improved Allure of the Seas:

The Pesky Parrot Tiki Bar

The Pesky Parrot Tiki Bar is the newest bar in the Royal Caribbean fleet. It debuted on the new Utopia of the Seas, Allure’s younger sibling. On Allure, this space is currently the Champagne Bar; on other Oasis-class ships, it’s the Bionic Bar.

Pesky Parrot Tiki Bar has received very positive reviews from guests. While the Bionic Bar is a “one-and-done” attraction for many, guests say they love spending time at the Pesky Parrot Tiki Bar. The vivid LED screens and tropical decor really make the place stand out.

Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade

Playmakers has quickly become a staple across the Royal Caribbean fleet. This sports bar is the place to go to watch a game, grab a beer, or play some pool. The venue also serves a la carte bar bites.

On Allure of the Seas, Playmakers will replace Sabor. That means it’ll have some of the same drawbacks as its other Oasis-class siblings. For example, the open-air setup means that it can get humid in there, and the sound from the AquaTheater can be overpowering during shows.

The Mason Jar

The Mason Jar is a southern-style restaurant where gets can enjoy dishes like Fried Green Tomatoes, Chicken Pot Pie, and Shrimp ‘N Grits. The restaurant initially debuted on the Wonder of the Seas and, most recently, on Utopia of the Seas.

It’s a specialty restaurant, but guests who don’t want to spend extra on food can just go to the bar and enjoy live music.

Ultimate Abyss

The Ultimate Abyss 10-story thrill slide has become a staple on every Oasis-class ship in the fleet except for the Allure. Allure will finally receive one during its retrofit. Ultimate Abyss is a dry-thrill slide where guests twist and turn from the pool deck down to the Boardwalk neighborhood. We don’t yet know if this will be a traditional Ultimate Abyss or the new, improved version found on the Utopia of the Seas.

The Lime & Coconut Bar

Royal Caribbean’s popular Lime & Coconut Bar will be coming to the pool decks on Allure of the Seas. The bar will have two locations serving guests some popular poolside cocktails.

El Loco Fresh

Royal Caribbean’s included, grab-and-go Tex-Mex restaurant will be appearing here. Previously, Royal Caribbean transformed the Wipe Out Cafe at the back of Deck 15 to “feature” El Loco Fresh Cuisine, but now it sounds like it’ll be a proper El Loco Fresh restaurant.

The Perfect Storm

It’s hard to believe that water slides were not a staple on Royal Caribbean ships when the Allure of the Seas debuted in 2010. Since then, Royal Caribbean has retrofitted most of their ships with the Perfect Storm water slides. The renovation will add the Cyclone and Typhoon racing waterslides and the SuperCell champagne bowl slide.

Resort-style Pools

The pools on Allure of the Seas will get a makeover, similar to those on recent ships like Wonder and Utopia of the Seas. They’ll add a variety of seating and shade options, including casitas, in-pool loungers, and daybeds (some at an extra fee).

The adult-only Solarium will get a few “new touches,” and Royal Caribbean has indicated that the Samba Grill will remain (it’s not on other Oasis-class ships). The space will likely remain a semi-enclosed Solarium, not the fully enclosed one found on the newest Oasis-class ships.

The kids’ area, formerly the H2O zone, will be upgraded to Splashaway Bay, which will include two dump buckets, water cannons, fountains, and pools.

Royal Escape Room – Apollo 18: Lunar Landing

The Allure of the Seas will get a new escape room themed after Apollo 18: Lunar Landing. It’s not known yet if it will be the full-hour escape room, seen on other Royal Caribbean ships, or the new 30-minute version that debuted on Utopia of the Seas.

Laser Tag

Guests will be able to battle against friends and family members in the Battle for Planet Z Laser Tag arena. The game takes place in Studio B Ice rink, where a floor slides out, and a large glow-in-the-dark inflatable structure provides the ultimate laser tag experience.

Kid Area Improvements

Adventure Ocean will get a new layout and new areas for kids. It’ll have a climbable structure, a theater, science and technology workshops, and interactive games.

The Teen Space, Social298, will also undergo a total transformation. Teens will be able to enjoy the latest video games and movies and attend parties in this updated space.

Allure of the Seas Will Sail Mediterranean and Caribbean Cruises

The Allure of the Seas’ dry dock will start on February 10, 2025, and finish on April 11. From there, it will sail Mediterranean sailings until November. At that point, it will head to Ford Lauderdale, where it will offer 6- to 8-night sailings.

My Take: Allure of the Seas Amplification Will Make the Ship Desirable Again

Out of all the Oasis-class ships, Allure was the least desirable due to its lack of renovations. Even the older sibling, Oasis of the Seas, seemed like a better ship because it was Amplified before the program was shut down. These upgrades go a long way to making Allure of the Seas seem more modern and more competitive with all the Oasis-class siblings. The only things that really set it apart now from the newest in the fleet is the lack of a fully enclosed Solarium, no dry play area for kids (although it keeps two FlowRiders), and not having the Vue Bar (keeping the second cantilevered hot tub).
