Carnival Finally Adds a Non-alcoholic Drink Package

After years of customer requests, Carnival has finally introduced a new non-alcoholic drink package. The new package, Cheers! Zero Proof, is in addition to their Bottomless Bubbles (soda only) and Cheers! (all drinks) packages. Of course, in true Carnival fashion, they had to give it a name that can be easily confused with the alcohol package instead of a completely distinct one (much like RedFrog Rum Bar, RedFrog Pub, RedFrog Tiki Bar, and RedFrog Brewery).

What Does Cheers! Zero Proof Cover?

The new package covers non-alcoholic drink choices on board. That includes premium coffees, teas, bottled water, zero-proof cocktails, alcohol-free beer, milkshakes, energy drinks, and soda (which are now Coca-Cola products).

The full list is:

  • Sodas (Coca-Cola line of products)
  • Juices (standard)
  • Bottled water (500ml), still, sparkling, and coconut water
  • Premium coffees & teas
  • Zero proof cocktails (non-alcoholic) (21+)
  • Alcohol-free beer (21+)
  • Alcohol-free sparkling wine (21+)
  • Frozen drinks (non-alcoholic)
  • Smoothies and bottled protein shakes
  • Milkshakes
  • Energy drinks

It does NOT include any beverages with alcohol, drinks in specialty glasses, or room service. It also excludes beverages offered at the gangway, which makes it sound like you won’t be able to grab a bottle of water right before getting off the ship.

There are no limits to the amount of drinks you can get. As just like the Bottomless Bubbles and standard Cheers! package, they won’t work on Carnival’s private destinations like Half Moon Cay and Celebration Key.

Cost of Cheers! Zero Proof

If you purchase the package before your cruise, the non-alcoholic drink package costs $29.99 per person per day plus an 18% gratuity. If you purchase it onboard, it is $34.99. (Note, in Australia, the cost is AUD $39.99 pre-cruise and AUD $44.99 on board).

One nice thing about the package is that not everyone in the cabin has to buy it. Like the Bottomless Bubbles package, only the person who wants it can get it. It’s a different policy from the standard Cheers! alcoholic package which everyone over 21 in the cabin must purchase.

Here is the total cost you’d pay for this package.

4$45$142$330
5$56$177$413
7$78$248$578

Our Take: Carnival is Looking to Increase Onboard Revenue

Carnival has always said a non-alcoholic drink package wasn’t in the cards. Brand Ambassador John Heald even flat-out told guests it wasn’t financially possible. But after years of people asking for milkshakes and lattes, Carnival finally gave in. You can bet the accountants double-checked the math though. At the end of the day, drink packages are a gamble; the cruise line is banking on you paying more up front than you’d spend buying drinks one at a time.

The timing here is interesting too. Carnival just started offering bundled deals that knock 25% off Wi-Fi and Cheers!, something they’ve never really done before. They almost never discount add-ons, so it feels like they’re testing new ways to get people spending more once they’re onboard.
