Carnival To Develop New “Ensenada Bay Village” Cruise Port in Mexico
A major new project is coming to the Port of Ensenada. On December 5, Carnival Corporation, ITM Group, and Hutchison Ports ECV officially revealed Ensenada Bay Village, a large resort and entertainment complex designed to enhance the experience for cruise passengers visiting the region. The project represents a $26 million investment through a public-private partnership.
The announcement took place at the Ensenada Cruiseport Village Terminal, with government officials and private-sector representatives in attendance. After the presentation, guests viewed the first concept images and enjoyed lunch onboard Carnival Panorama.
A New Cruise Destination Takes Shape in Ensenada
The project will feature a next-generation cruise terminal capable of handling two cruise ships daily and accommodating up to 9,000 visitors per day. Construction is expected to take about 24 months.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, spoke at the event and said, “Today’s presentation reflects our shared vision of creating destinations that inspire pride and prosperity.”
What Guests Can Expect
Ensenada Bay Village will blend entertainment, culture, dining, and themed experiences within an immersive setting inspired by 18th-century California architecture. The complex is divided into two main areas.
Ensenada Bay Village
This commercial and entertainment district will offer experiences influenced by local culture. Planned highlights include a Chocolate Factory, a Beer Factory, a Wine and Cheese Experience, and a Tequila Experience.
Other attractions include the Ancestral Spa with massage cabins and a beach club that will feature pools, bars, fire pits, and a restaurant.
Legends of Adventure
Legends of Adventure will focus on interactive attractions and outdoor activities. Early details include zip lines and an off-road style experience called Dune Rally.
A Plan That Has Been in the Works for Years
Carnival first announced its intention to develop a destination in Ensenada in February 2018, but the COVID pandemic delayed the project. It is now moving forward with an anticipated opening in 2027.
A Carnival Financed Port, Not a Private Island
Ensenada Bay Village will operate more like Carnival’s ports of Amber Cove and Roatan rather than its private islands such as Half Moon Cay. Carnival is a part owner of these ports, and they primarily serve Carnival Corporation ships, but they do not recreate the full onboard experience in the same way a private island does. Private islands typically include ship-run activities and complimentary dining, while port destinations like this focus more on local experiences and independent attractions (at an additional cost, usually).
