Carnival to Homeport 4 Ships in Galveston for 2027/28

The cruise port of Galveston has been steadily growing in popularity over the years. It is now the fourth-largest cruise port in the United States and the largest outside of Florida. The port has been gaining increased attention as MSC, Norwegian, and Disney have all brought new ships to the area, hoping to make cruising more convenient for guests traveling from the Midwest and the West Coast. Carnival has long maintained a presence in Galveston, but in 2027/28, the line is upping its commitment to four ships. See which ships are coming and leaving below.

Canrival Jubilee is Staying

Of course, the ship with the Texas star embedded on its hull is staying put in Galveston. The newest ship in the Carnival fleet, the Jubilee, will sail 6- and 8-day cruises. The 6-day sailings will head to the Western Caribbean, visiting Cozumel and Isla Tropicale (formerly called Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras). The 8-day sailings will expand further, visiting Nassau, Celebration Key, and RelaxAway at Half Moon Cay.

Carnival Breeze is Staying and Offering 7-Day Sailings

The Carnival Breeze will also continue to call Galveston home. Starting in May 2027, the ship will shift to mostly 7-day schedules. These itineraries will alternate between Western and Eastern Caribbean routes, giving guests more variety. The ship will have several 4- and 5-day sailings and 3 longer Journeys cruises.

Horizon is Moving From Miami for 4- and 5-day Sailings

The Carnival Horizon will be making the move from Miami to Galveston in May 2027. Once there, it will offer shorter 4- and 5-day sailings visiting Cozumel and Progreso.

Galveston has previously hosted the Horizon’s sister ship, Carnival Vista, so guests are used to the features like the vibrant LED funnel in the Atrium, Havana Staterooms, and SkyRide, but the Horizon will bring an additional feature: Guy’s Pig and Anchor Smokehouse and Brewery, a popular dining and entertainment venue onboard.

Carnival Spirit is Moving from the West Coast

Carnival Spirit will arrive in Galveston in October 2027. The ship will make the transition with a unique 16-day Panama Canal Journeys voyage as it repositions from the West Coast, where it has been sailing in Alaska. Afterward, the Spirit will offer 4-, 5-, and 6-day cruises visiting Cozumel, Progreso, and Belize. In addition, the ship will feature 11 extended sailings with 10-day itineraries, providing longer vacation options out of Texas.

The Spirit-class ships are well regarded for their easy-to-navigate layouts and more manageable size while still offering Carnival favorites such as the Alchemy Bar, Guy’s Burger Joint, and Bonsai Sushi.

Carnival Dream is Leaving

The Carnival Dream has been sailing out of Galveston for some time now, but it will be relocating to New Orleans in May 2027. While there, it will offer 4- and 5-day Western Caribbean cruises.

Lots of Choices for Galveston

With this new lineup, Carnival is bringing a wide range of choices to Galveston. Guests can sail on the newest and largest ship, Carnival Jubilee, or opt for a smaller, classic ship with the Spirit. The Horizon provides a good mid-sized option for shorter getaways, while the Breeze, a favorite among many longtime Carnival cruisers, continues to deliver week-long escapes. Altogether, Carnival is offering something for everyone sailing out of Galveston in 2027/28.
