Disney Cruise Line to Add Four New Ships, Expanding Fleet to 13 by 2031

Last Updated on August 20, 2024

Disney Cruise Line made waves at the D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, with the announcement of four brand-new ships set to join its fleet between 2027 and 2031. This unexpected reveal marks a significant expansion for the line, which will see its fleet grow from the current five ships to a total of 13 by the end of the decade.

Disney’s New Ship Design Is Not Yet Known

The new ships will be built by MEYER WERFT, a company that has been instrumental in delivering several of Disney’s iconic vessels, including Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish. They’ll be delivered between 2027 and 2031.

The names, designs, and sizes of these new ships are still under development. Disney has not disclosed whether they will also be part of the Wish-class or a whole new class of ship.

We also don’t yet know where these new ships will sail. Disney’s focus on expanding its global reach could see the cruise line entering new regions, such as South America, where it currently has no presence. Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, hinted at this global vision, saying, “Expanding our fleet gives more people, in more parts of the world, the opportunity to experience a vacation at sea like only Disney can provide.”

Disney Fleet Will More Than Double in 7 Years

These four new ships are in addition to the upcoming ships Disney has already announced.

  • Disney Treasure – Wish-class ship sailing out of Port Canaveral in 2024
  • Disney Adventure – Global-class ship sailing out of Singapore in 2025
  • Disney Destiny – Wish-class ship sailing out of Port Everglades in 2025
  • Wish-class Ship 4 – Wish-class ship sailing out of Japan in 2029

With the most recent announcement, Disney’s fleet will increase from 5 ships to 13 in just seven years, a massive expansion for any cruise line. According to Disney, though, the demand is there. They mention they reached 97% occupancy across its five ships in Q2 2024. These new ships can go along way to providing more capacity to Disney’s unique cruise experience.
