Norwegian Honors Teachers With a Discount and a Cruise Giveaway

This week (May 6 – 10, 2024) is Teacher Appreciation Week, a time to thank the hard-working and often underpaid educators in our lives. Norwegian Cruise Line is joining in on the action and has made two announcements: a new “Teacher Cruise Discount” and their 5th annual “Giving Joy” contest, which awards 20 educators free cruises.

Norwegian’s new “Teacher Cruise Discount”

As part of “Teacher Appreciation Week,” Norwegian is launching a new, year-round discount program. It gives educators a 5% discount off any NCL voyage and a $50 onboard credit. Even better, this discount can be combined with Norwegian’s Free at Sea promotions, which can offer free wi-fi, airfare, shore excursion credits, and drink packages.

The discount applies to the following educators:

  • Active classroom teachers (PreK-12)
  • Principals and Assistant Principals (PreK-12)
  • School employees (PreK-12)
  • College/University professors

To get the discount, educators will have to validate their identities through the ID.me system. This secure digital identity network is also used by entities like the IRS and the Social Security Department. Once the educator verifies their identity, they won’t have to do it again.

Norwegian’s “Giving Joy” contest

Winners of the Giving Joy contest will win a cruise on the brand-new Norwegian Aqua.

This week also marks the return of the “Giving Joy” contest. It’s the fifth year NCL has run this program, which awards 20 teachers with an invite to the inaugural event aboard a brand-new ship, the Norwegian Aqua. They’ll receive VIP treatment as they welcome the newest ship to the fleet. The top five winners will have an opportunity to attend the Aqua’s christening celebration and a three-night sailing out of Miami.

You can nominate the favorite educator in your life through June 7, 2024, by visiting www.nclgivingjoy.com.

Norwegian’s history of celebrating educators

Norwegian has a long history of supporting teachers and educators. They said that they’ve received nearly 60,000 teacher nominations, 1.8 million votes, and awarded 250 educators with a cruise vacation. In most recent years, it hasn’t been just a free cruise but an invite to an exclusive event aboard their newest NCL ship, where they receive the VIP treatment they deserve. In addition, NCL has donated over $445,000 to teachers and their schools with the support of their partners.

“We are proud of our history of thanking educators for their hard work and commitment to shaping the next generation of future leaders…Travel is a powerful means of education, and we look forward to welcoming educators to join us on board to explore the world.”
– David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

The new Teacher Cruise Discount is even better, offering a discount to all educators, not just the winning ones. Since teachers often have to vacation during peak travel season, when fares are higher, the year-round discount will help them be able to stretch their vacation dollars further.
