Norwegian Luna Entertainment: Elton John, Eagles, and More

Nowregian’s new ship, the Norwegian Luna, is just four months away from its first sailing out of Miami, Florida. We already know a lot about the ship because it is virtually identical to its sister ship, the Norwegian Aqua, which debuted earlier this year. But one thing that will be different is the entertainment. Norwegian just shared what guests can look forward to onboard this new ship.

Elton John Production Show

Over the past few years, Norwegian has moved away from Broadway shows like Kinky Boots, Six, and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical that they had onboard their ships. On the Norwegian Aqua, instead of a Broadway show, they debuted a tribute show to Prince. On Luna, a different artist is honored.

The new show, “Rocket Man: A Celebration of Elton John,” fits perfectly with Luna’s stellar theme. The show takes place in the Luna Theater, where the stage is set up to resemble a concert stage. Vibrant LED visuals, four different grand pianos, and choreography will highlight the catalog of this amazing performer who has had more than 70 top 40 hits spanning five decades. It will feature archival footage of Elton John and costumes that are sure to impress.

New Production Show: HIKO

The Luna will also see a new, completely original production show, “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder.” It will be the first time Norwegian has introduced an original character, HIKO, who will also roam the ship for meet-and-greet experiences.

The concept is not entirely clear. Norwegian describes the show as a show that “blends cutting-edge 3D mapping, multi-sensory video projection and a fully original score exclusive to NCL that transports guests to a futuristic world.” The show will also feature four elite gymnasts for aerial acts, the most ever in an NCL show, according to the line. Costumes and visuals were designed by Guy Brassard, a longtime collaborator with Cirque du Soleil.

Kids’ Show: Sea of Discovery

Norwegian Luna will also have a show made especially for children, “Sea of Discovery! An Under-the-Sea Festival.” It is a first-of-its-kind original experience that follows an inquisitive fish on an interactive adventure through the ocean. According to Norwegian, the show will have “glow games, whimsical costumes, and awe-inspiring visuals.” They said it is a hands-on showcase of imagination where families will play along, so it sounds more interactive than a standard production show.

Syd Norman’s Presents The Eagles

If you have been on one of Norwegian’s newer ships, you have probably had the chance to check out “Syd Norman’s Presents: Rumours.” It is a fan-favorite show where the cast of Syd Norman’s performs the entirety of Fleetwood Mac’s album. The show is always impressive, featuring super-talented performers who really capture the essence of Fleetwood Mac. It is arguably one of Norwegian’s best shows, but the problem is that it is on so many ships that repeat guests are likely to have seen it.

Now on Luna, the band will take on The Eagles. “Syd Norman’s Presents: A Tribute to the Eagles” will bring classic rock and roll hits to the stage. Like they have done on Prima, Viva, and Aqua, this specific show will move out of the Syd Norman’s venue and onto the Luna Theater stage, meaning guests are no longer crammed into a space that is too small for how popular the show is.

The Eagles tribute will be in the main theater, but Syd Norman’s will still be used for other performances.

When not performing the Eagles tribute, the crew will still perform at night in the Syd Norman’s Pour House bar. The bar is themed after a 1960s rock scene and will feature new sets, including a ’90s set and Live Band Karaoke.

Party Experience for Adults

Guests 21 and older will have a chance to view the new exclusive party experience, LunaTique. The event will take place at The Improv at Sea. It is not clear what the event will be, but Norwegian says “Classic circus archetypes—ringmasters, acrobats, clowns, and strongmen—are reimagined as edgy, fashion-forward personas in a pop-infused show designed for unforgettable nights at sea.” It will be an after-hours experience with neon aesthetics, signature cocktails, and character-driven performances.

First Night Show

Norwegian is bringing back the First Night show, which debuted on the Norwegian Bliss and the Norwegian Encore. The show will showcase all the different experiences guests will see during their cruise to give them a sampler.

New Nightclub Experiences in the Luna Theater & Club

The seating in The Theater folds back at night and transforms the space into a nightclub.

The entertainment lineup on Norwegian Luna will also include two new late-night events that take advantage of the ship’s transforming Luna Theater & Club. Like its sister ships, the venue shifts from a three-story theater into a large Vegas-style nightclub with an expanded dance floor, two bars, and new lighting effects.

The first new concept is the Norwegian Luna Eclipse Party. It is a festival-inspired glow party with bold visuals and an upbeat soundtrack designed to feel like a modern outdoor music festival brought indoors.

The second addition is Planetdisco. This show leans into classic disco with retro performances, colorful lighting, and a lively cast that encourages guests to dance along.

Our Take: Norwegian Searches for Its New Entertainment Identity

Over the past few years, it has felt like Norwegian has been trying to figure out what its entertainment style should be. The line stepped away from Broadway productions, trimmed back some offerings, and shifted toward ballroom-style tributes and game-show formats. With the announcements for Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, it looks like they may finally be settling into a new direction.

Both ships now feature artist tribute productions that combine modern staging, concert visuals, and contemporary choreography with well-known musical catalogs. The descriptions are still a bit vague, so it is hard to picture exactly what each show will look like, but it is clear that Norwegian wants more artistry, acrobatics, and theatrical flair in the mix. Norwegian highlights that the show will include four acrobats, their most yet, which is a step forward. In comparison, Royal Caribbean’s entertainment program can feature more than twenty Olympians on the same ship, showing how far behind Norwegian is.

With Luna, you can see Norwegian aiming for a wide range of tastes. The lineup covers families, classic rock fans, retro music lovers, and guests who want late-night nightlife. It feels like the line is trying to build a more diverse entertainment program that gives every type of cruiser something to connect with.
