Norwegian Luna – Twin Sister-Ship to the Aqua

At a travel partner and media presentation in Venice, Italy, Norwegian Cruise Line announced the name of their newest ship, the Norwegian Luna. The ship will debut in April 2026, and it will be the twenty-first ship in the NCL fleet. See what this new ship has in store.

Norwegian Luna is Prima Plus Class

The Luna is part of a six-ship order Norwegian cruise line placed with the shipyard, Fincantieri. The first two ships, the Norwegian Prima and Viva, were part of the Prima Class. The third ship, the Aqua, and the fourth, the Luna, will be Prima Plus and about 10% larger than the first two. The two remaining ships will be 20% larger than the Prima.

Norwegian Luna Will be a Twin Sister-Ship to Norwegian Aqua

According to NCL, the Luna will be a “twin sister-ship” to the Aqua, which will debut in March 2025. That means the ships will be nearly identical, much like the Prima and Viva are almost carbon copies of each other. That means these new ships will have many of the enhancements that the Aqua is getting.

Sukhothai Thai Restaurant

Norwegian’s first specialty restaurant that specializes in Thai food. It will take the place on Food Republic on the Prima and Viva.

Glow Court

The Glow Court is a digital sports complex that serves the same purpose as The Stadium on the Prima and Viva. Interactive LED elements create fun games for guests during the day; at night, it will transform into a nightclub.

Aqua Slidecoaster

Like the Aqua, the Luna will have a slidecoaster, a cross between a waterslide and a roller coaster. It will be the longest and fastest waterslide at sea, spanning three decks. Rafts are propelled through the tubes using magnets for impressive speed and thrills. The Aqua Slidecoaster will replace the Race Track on other Prima ships.

Larger Outdoor Area and Pool

The large wrap-around exterior promenade Ocean Boulevard will be 10% larger on the Luma than the Prima and Viva. The main pool area will also be expanded, and new seating options will be added to address one of the main complaints of the Prima Class ship.

New Wine Bar and Larger Venues

Like the Aqua, the Luna will get a new Swirl Wine Bar offering a large selection of fine wines by the glass and bottle. The Belvedere Bar will switch places with the Whisky Bar. This change gives the Belvedere Bar better views during the day, and a general service bar that will be more useful to guests at night. The new location of the whisky bar provides a more intimate atmosphere that works well with the more limited menu.

Returning Favorites

The Luna will also have many things that worked well on the Prima and Viva, like the Indulge Food Hall, Metropolitan Bar, a large Haven area with dedicated elevators, and the immersive 3-story theater.

Norwegian Luna Will Be Based in Miami

The first revenue sailing of the Luna will be on April 4, 2026. This new ship will be based in Miami and sail seven-day itineraries to the Western and Eastern Caribbean including ports like Puerto Plata, Tortola, and the US Virgin Islands. Many sailings visit NCL’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, using the brand-new pier for easy access.
