Royal Caribbean Will Turn Costa Maya into Perfect Day Mexico

In surprising news, Royal Caribbean announced they will build a new private destination for guests called Perfect Day Mexico. To do this, they’ve acquired the port of Costa Maya and will transform it into a private destination for Royal Caribbean guests.

Royal Caribbean Takes Over Costa Maya Port

Perfect Day Mexico will be located at the Costa Maya, the port outside of Mahahual, Mexico. Built in 2001, Port Costa Maya has an expansive facility available right outside the ship’s piers. Guests can visit locally operated shops, relax in the two large pools, swim with dolphins, tour an aviary, or just sit back with a local cocktail at one of the bars.

As part of this project, Royal Caribbean is purchasing the port, as well as additional areas surrounding the space. In total, Perfect Day Mexico will take up over 220 acres, although a portion of the space will be dedicated to ecological preservation.

While much is up in the air, Royal Caribbean indicated that Perfect Day Mexico will include an all-new waterpark, pools, beaches, restaurants, and bars. According to Cruise Critic, Costa Maya’s existing waterpark, Lost Mayan Kingdom, is part of the land that is being acquired, but the cruise line indicated the waterpark will be new. The graphic provided by Royal Caribbean shows a massive slide tower and hot air balloon similar to what is seen in Perfect Day at CocoCay.

“Since the introduction of Perfect Day at CocoCay in 2019, our top-rated destination, the memories made by millions have paved the way for the unbelievable experience that will be Perfect Day Mexico. Destinations are a big part of why families and adventurers vacation with Royal Caribbean, and in collaboration with Mexico’s state of Quintana Roo, we are unlocking new and unparalleled ways to make memories in a destination known and loved for its natural beauty, warm culture and prime location. We look forward to revealing more soon.”  – Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International

Other Cruises Lines Can Still Access Costa Maya but Not Perfect Day

Currently, Costa Maya is a port also visited by cruise lines like Norwegian, Virgin Voyages, MSC, Princess Cruises, and Carnival. Royal Caribbean indicated that ships will still be allowed to dock in port, but guests won’t have access to Perfect Day Mexico. Instead, there will be a dedicated transportation center where excursions will depart from. Other cruise lines have not yet commented if they plan to visit the port now that it is owned by Royal Caribbean.

Perfect Day Mexico Will Debut in 2027

Planning is already underway, and Perfect Day Mexico is scheduled to open to guests in 2027. More information will be released in the coming months.
