Virgin Voyages Steps Up To Help Stranded Flyers

The U.S. federal government shutdown has thrown the air travel system into chaos. On Sunday alone, more than 2,700 flights were canceled and 10,000 delayed, leaving thousands of travelers stranded. For cruisers flying to their embarkation ports, it’s become a logistical nightmare. Even those who planned ahead and arrived a day early aren’t immune from the ripple effects. To help, Virgin Voyages has introduced a new policy to provide guests with peace of mind when flight plans fall apart.

Virgin Voyages Says “We’ve Got You”

Virgin Voyages has said that it will provide a future voyage credit to any guest who can’t make their sailing because of a flight cancellation. Guests simply need to contact Sailor Services and share their airline’s cancellation confirmation, and Virgin will issue the credit immediately.

According to the cruise line, the goal is to remove one major headache from the pre-cruise experience. “This isn’t what you signed up for or what you deserve, and it certainly isn’t your fault,” the message to travelers said.

Virgin Voyages also notes that its team can help guests navigate rebooking options to try to reach the ship if possible.

The Virgin Way

Virgin Voyages continues to distinguish itself from the rest of the industry with adults-only ships, flexible policies, and a focus on traveler experience. This latest move reinforces that commitment, showing empathy and support before guests even step onboard.

What we can’t guarantee: no cancellations. What we can guarantee: we’ll take care of you. We can also guarantee no kids.”

Our Take: Customer-Forward Approach That Sets Virgin Apart

Notably, no other cruise line has addressed the current disaster that air travel in the U.S. has become due to the federal government shutdown. Virgin Voyages’ policy shows a genuine commitment to going above and beyond for guests. Travelers could have planned perfectly, but there’s no way to predict that their flights would be disrupted because of a government standoff that treats citizens as collateral.

Virgin Voyages signs off their message perfectly:

“When things get back to normal, we’ll be right here, ready to take you away from all of it. You’re definitely going to need it. The smiles are on us.”
